A brand new skin & body care range, proudly introduced by Africa Silks, the only working silk farm in South Africa. The products are enriched with the biopolymer, Sericin. The raw material for the manufacture of Sericin is a top quality raw silk yarn, obtained exclusively from the domesticated mulberry silkworm (Bombyx mori). The silk spinnerettes of Bombyx mori produce a delicate twin thread of silk and surround it with a protective cover of sericin during the spinning procedure. This principle, designed by Mother Nature and used successfully for millions of years, is now being copied and perfected to provide an innovative active ingredient for the Silk Africa Skin & Body Care Range.

Silk is thought to have been created as early as 6000 years BC, originally reserved for use by the aristocracy. It has always been a luxury item, due to its superior quality, feel, appearance and strength. Due to this there has always been a high demand for silk, necessitating global manufacture, and thus, a local manufacturer were born.

The Silk Africa range of products was created to encompass the subtle energies that are existent within the company and the current range of products on offer.

Silk softly caresses the skin, gently soothing it and creating a feeling of luxury. This has been the base of our formulating principles, creating products that enhance the feeling of silk on skin, gently soothing and smoothing it.

Naturally produced Sericin is the main active ingredient that is used in these products. It is the protein that binds silk fibres together when cocoons are produced, and it is extracted and purified from the cocoons under strict GMP procedures for use in our range.

As the sericin binds the fibres of the cocoon together, to protect the vulnerable creature inside, so these products were formulated to protect the delicate and vulnerable skin, which is our only defence against the outside world.

Being the largest organ, and our final barrier against environmental factors, it stands to reason that we should take as much care of, and nurture the skin as is available to us.

Sericin has a high affinity to Keratin, thereby effectively binding to the skin and hair, creating a MOISTURISING, SEMI OCCLUSIVE MULTI-FUNCTIONAL, PROTECTIVE ANTI-WRINKLE film that imparts an immediate and long lasting silky-smooth feeling. The uniform film formed after the application persists even after washing.

Saccharide Isomerate regulates and retains moisture in the skin and remains active even under low conditions of humidity, thereby ensuring that your skin is always moisturized.

Jojoba Oil is an excellent inherent Emolient with high moisturization properties. These qualities, together with the oxidative stability properties of the oil, make it ideal for use in Silk Africa products. It is also a powerful antioxidant. Jojoba Oil is completely mixable with sebum, thereby forming a thin lipoid layer when applied to the skin. This layer is partially porous providing excellent trans-epidermal respiration and moisture control. It also significantly reduces Trans-epidermal Water Loss without blocking transportation of water, vapour and gas. Jojoba Oil enhances the spread and lubricity of Silk Africa skincare products, creating a rich velvety feel while enhancing the flexibility and elasticity of the skin. As Jojoba oil is rapidly absorbed, it does not block pores and hair follicles, thereby enabling them to keep on functioning as desired. Jojoba Oil moisturizes and softens the skin through dual action of forming a partially occlusive lipid layer and diffusion of the oil into the intercellular spaces of the stratum conium, softening the tissue. Grape Seed Oil has mildly astringent properties which help tighten and tone the skin. It is rich in linoleic acid, which is required by the skin and its membranes. Being a great skin moisturiser, it also has regenerative and restructuring virtues.

Grape Seed Oil is a finely textured oil and is non-comedogenic. It contains proanthocyanidins which are powerful antioxidants; thereby diminishing the sun's damaging effects and lessening free radical damage.

Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein and Oxido Reductases combats the harmful effects of environmental aggressors through its anti-irritant activity. This is created through the powerful two-fold concept of creating a synergistic mixture of natural oxidorectases and plant based peptides that exert protection.

The Oxido Reductases neutralise oxygen free radicals and render them harmless. Glycine soya peptides inhibit harmful proteinases. Combining both ensure effective protection against irritation and accelerated skin aging.

Algae Extract is an innovative skin energizer based on microalgae. It improves the skins complexion by protecting the mitochondria and improves cell turnover by increasing the ATP levels. Algae Extract activates the Mitochondria and protects them against oxidative stress. The complexion of the skin is enhanced through increasing the brightness and transparency, resulting in a fresher and more radiant skin.

Natural Sweet Almond Oil further balances or replaces lost moisture in the skin, as required. It also conditions the skin, revives natural glow and improves the complexion. Having a high concentration of Oleic and Linoleic Acid, it also acts as a skin nourisher.

A combination of Alpine plants create a skin brightening effect based on Tyrosinase inhibiting activity.
